The old adage pertaining to cybersecurity incidents of, “It’s not ‘if’, but ‘when,’” has continued to hold. While organizations have invested considerable sums in technologies and personnel to stop cybersecurity incidents, it is still necessary to have a plan in place should an organization fall victim to an attack. A cybersecurity incident response plan, or CIRP, needs to represent the interests of a variety of functional stakeholders while still being an actionable, intuitive and beneficial process. Unfortunately, it isn’t uncommon for CIRPs to lack key components that, if missing, greatly reduce the usability of the document during an emergency. In this presentation, the presenters will clearly and articulately offer concrete examples that, through examining hundreds of incident response plans, are common shortcomings lacking in CIRPs.

Robert Lelewski has spent twenty years in the fields of information technology, cyber security, and incident response. Robert’s cybersecurity career was initiated with several years as a computer forensic and incident response consultant responding to high-profile incident across the globe. Robert then joined Dell Secureworks as the Director of Proactive Services and oversaw the team’s global proactive practice, helping organizations prepare for a cybersecurity incident. Over his career, Robert has conducted hundreds of tabletop exercises, developed hundreds of incident response plans, and has been a consultant to organizations ranging from small regional banks to Fortune 50 companies across the globe.
